Description:

Group Of 7 Indo-Persian Mughal Miniature Paintings, Court Scenes, Polo, Garden Assemblies, 18th/19th C. Sizes From: 6.75'' x 4'', 17 x 10 cm (sheet); 10.5'' x 6.75'', 27 x 17 cm (mat); To: 9.25'' x 5.75'', 23 x 15 cm (sheet); 13.75'' x 8.5'', 35 x 22 cm (mat). A varied group of seven Indo-Persian miniature paintings, executed in opaque watercolor and ink on paper, dating to the late 18th to early 19th century, and later mounted on album pages. The group represents a range of courtly and poetic subjects characteristic of late Mughal and provincial North Indian ateliers, including scenes of aristocratic leisure, garden gatherings, equestrian combat, and courtly audiences within architectural pavilions. One folio retains a Persian calligraphic cartouche in Nastaliq script, likely a poetic verse, reinforcing the album-page tradition (muraqqa) in which paintings and calligraphy were combined for viewing. Stylistic elements suggest production across Mughal-influenced centers such as Lucknow (Awadh), Delhi, and possibly Rajasthani courts, reflecting the diffusion of imperial aesthetics in the post-Mughal period.
