Description:

Indian Miniature Painting Of Krishna With Devotee, Jaipur School, Late 18th/Early 19th C. Size: 9'' x 7'', 23 x 18 cm (sheet); 14'' x 11'', 36 x 28 cm (mat). A Indian miniature painting depicting Krishna in a multi-register devotional composition, likely originating from the Jaipur region of Rajasthan, late 18th to early 19th century. Executed in opaque watercolor on paper, the work presents two distinct narrative moments arranged vertically within a stylized landscape. In the upper register, the blue-skinned deity Krishna stands in dialogue before a seated noble or elder figure, possibly representing a courtly or didactic interaction. Below, Krishna appears in a reclining pose within a grove setting, attended by a female devotee, capturing a more intimate devotional moment. The central cluster of trees functions as a visual divider, a compositional device characteristic of Rajasthani narrative painting. Verso: Plain, with later pencil notations, collector or dealer initials (“NK / PR”), a small inventory label (“041664”). No original inscriptions present. On mat.
