Description:

Yi warrior's upper body armor. The bodice is of lacquered and painted leather from which hang multiple rows of small leather plates bound together with leather cord. A suit of armor was a symbol of status, ceremony and identity for a member of the Warrior Class of the Yi minority. Sichuan, China, 19th century. Size (open): 22'' x 40'' (56 x 102 cm).
