Exhibited/Published/Illustrated: Schachspiele Wandel Im Laufe Der Kunst Und Kulturgeschichte (Chess: Art History and Culture), page 69, plate71. Staatliches Museum Fur Volkerkunde (now the Five Continents Museum), Munich, 1988.
Loja e Shahut: Loje Kulturore - Loje Boterore; Schachspiel: Kulturspiel - Weltspiel (World and Culture of Chess), Tirana, Albania, 1989, organized by the Staatliches Museum Fur Volkerkunde Munchen, 1989, illustrated page 18, text page 19.

Unusual for early 19th century south German chess sets are the Bishops as court jesters; an homage to some French sets of the same period. The King and Queen are busts that reference a sculptural Roman-era style, while the Rooks are molded in the manner of Austrian pieces. Knights are horses. Pawns are patterned after those from 18th century Dieppe sets.

A Munich museum chess exhibition catalog is included with this set.
