Description:

Mughal Or Indo-Persian Nasta'liq Calligraphy Panel On Gold Ground, Late 18th- Early 19th C.. Size: 8.25'' x 9.25'', 21 x 23 cm (sheet); 14'' x 11'', 36 x 28 cm (mat). A calligraphic panel (qit'a) rendered in nasta'liq script, executed in ink and gold on paper, dating to the late 18th to early 19th century within the Persianate world. The composition features black ink verses arranged in a dynamic diagonal format within cloud-band reserves. The text, likely classical Persian poetry in the tradition of Hafez or Sa'di, explores themes of love, longing, and spiritual devotion, characteristic of Persian literary culture. Works of this type were often mounted into albums (muraqqa) or appreciated as independent works of art, valued for both their poetic content and calligraphic sophistication. Rough Translation: "Since love entered the heart, reason departed. The path of devotion became my only road. In the gathering of friends, I spoke only of longing. For the beloved, I abandoned both self and world."
